WEEKEND RECAP: Roberts and Sandoval Win BMX Freestyle National Championships

BMX Freestyle Continental Championships

After an exciting weekend in Cary, North Carolina, American riders dominated the competition. Both the BMX Continental Championships and the UCI C1 Men’s race were held this weekend. In the C1 competition, Bryce Tryon (Lodi, Calif.), placed second. Fellow American, Nick Bruce (Cleveland, Ohio), was close behind him placing fourth.

In starts and stripes, elite riders Hannah Roberts (Buchanan, Mich.) and Daniel Sandoval (Corona, Calif.) were named BMX Freestyle National Champions.

Mountain Bike Tokyo 2020 Test Event

In the year leading up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, test event will be held periodically to insure a smooth ride (pun intended) in 2020. At the Izu Mountain Bike Course in Izu city, Japan, the second Tokyo 2020 test event was held, this time for Mountain Bike. In the women’s elite competition, American Lea Davison (Jericho, Vt.) placed in the top 20. In the men’s elite competition, American Christopher Blevins (Durango, Colo.) placed in the top 40.


In Fayetteville, Arkansas, a C2 Cyclocross event was held this weekend. Day 1 of the competition turned out a huge success for American riders. In the men’s elite competition, Kerry Werner (Birdsboro, Penn.) finished first with fellow teammates Lance Haidet (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Curtis White (Delanson, N.Y.) finishing close behind him with second and third place finishes respectively. In the women’s elite competition, Clara Honsinger (Portland, Ore.) was Americas top finisher placing third. Men’s Juniors also had a strong finishes on day 1 with Nick Carter (Minneapolis, Minn.) placing first and fellow teammates Jules Van Kempen (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and Jared Scott (Boulder, Colo.) placing second and third respectively.

Day 2 of the UCI C2 Cyclocross event was another great success for the American racers. Men’s elite American riders battled it out but ultimately White (Delanson, N.Y.) finished first just ¼ of a second in front of follow American Gage Hecht (Parker, Colo.). Werner (Birdsboro, Penn.) was close behind them placing third.

Honsinger (Portland, Ore.) was able to pull out a first place finish in the women’s elite competition on the second day. Day 2 continued to be successful for the men’s junior riders as well. Scott (Boulder, Colo.) placed first and fellow Americans Dylan Zakrajsek (Lake Geneva, Wisc.) and Carter (Minneapolis, Minn.) placed second and third respectively.
