WEEKEND RECAP: Americans shine at BMX Freestyle and Track World Cups

Roberts dominates at BMX Freestyle World Cup. As ProCX season continues, there are top performances from american riders locally and in Europe.

BMX Freestyle World Cup

At this weekend’s UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup in Chengdu, China, Hannah Roberts (Buchanan, M.I.) claimed her third UCI World Cup round of the season. After three rounds of intense battle, Roberts claimed first, winning the overall title, with teammate and reigning UCI World Champion, Perris Benegas (Sparks, N.V.), right behind her in second. After a battle in the men’s elite park competition, reigning UCI World Champion, Justin Dowell (Virginia Beach, V.A.) placed third.

UCI Track World Cup

This week at the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Minsk, Belarus, the U.S. National Team started their 2019-2020 World Cup Season with huge success. Team USA claimed their third Team Pursuit title and three medals on the second day of competition. Led by Jennifer Valente’s (San Diego, C.A.) four-medal performance, the U.S. National Team started their track season on a high note. To read more about this event, follow the link here.

Really Rad CX

Back in the states, U.S. athletes were heating up on the dirt. At the Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross, Curtis White (Delanson, N.Y.) took first during both days of this UCI C2 event in Falmouth, MA.

At the end of day one, with White in first, fellow Americans Tobin Ortenblad (Santa Cruz, C.A.) and Sam Noel (Shelburne, V.T.) placed second and third respectively. In the women’s competition, racers were neck and neck, but ultimately; Katie Clouse (Park City, U.T.) came out on top over Rebecca Fahringer (Concord, N.H.). Crystal Anthony (Newbury Park, C.A..) came in third. Junior, Magnus Sheffield (Pittsford, N.Y.), won the first juniors race over Tommy Serveatas (Loudonville, N.Y.) and Luca Haines (Durham, N.H.).

Day 2 brought a huge win for White. Winning the men’s elite race by more than two minutes over Lane Maher (Harwinton, C.T.) and Noel. White finished the weekend by sweeping the podium. In the women’s race, Fahringer edged out Clouse for first by 15 seconds. Caroline Nolan (Reno, N.V.) placed third. Sheffield and Servetas ended in the same place as day one finishing in first and second, respectively. George Piepgras (Swampscott, M.A.) placed third.

Koppenburg CX

American Riders traveled overseas to compete in a UCI C1 event. Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, C.O.) and Kaitlin Keough (Colorado Springs, C.O.) raced in Koppenburg, Belgium this past weekend. Compton took third place, just under 3o seconds behind the top finisher. Fellow American, Keough was just shy of the podium placing fourth.

Keough started the weekend off strong with a fifth-place finish a minute behind top finisher. Day three brought more success for the American riders with Compton, under 30 seconds behind the top finisher, taking third. Fellow American, Keough was just shy of the podium placing fourth.
