USA Cycling announces Regional Race Director Summits

By: Kelly Fox  March 15, 2019

Colorado Springs, Colo.– USA Cycling announced today the start of a new series of Regional Race Director Summits. These summits, the first two taking place in Chicago Ill., Rock Hill S.C., were created with the goal of making resources more readily available for race directors in the USA Cycling community as well as facilitating networking opportunities with other local directors. Registration is free, but space is limited.

“Race Directors are a vital part of the USA Cycling community,” said Chuck Hodge, Chief of Racing and Events, “We created these regional summits to be able to reach more of our race directors and ensure they are supported and have the resources they need to continue to run top-notch events, as well as provide feedback to each other and USA Cycling.”

Each Regional Race Director Summit will feature several topics, including how to engage new cyclists, the changing landscape of events, working with your local association, risk management, and event planning, safety and guidelines. Speakers at this event will include USA Cycling National Events Staff as well as prominent local race directors in each region, as well as open discussion on a variety of topics.

“Since my first days as a cyclist beginning in 1970 I was fortunate to be guided by those that have come before me. My experience as a racer, a coach, and as an event director has connected me to an amazing cycling family that rewards me every day,” said Tom Schuler, Race Director for the Detroit Cycling Classic, which is a stop on the USA Cycling Pro Road Tour, “I applaud USA Cycling for taking the lead in producing race directors summits that will allow me to learn and share with other passionate cyclists.”
