Team USA will be competing at the 2019 UCI Cyclocross World Championships taking place in Bogense, Denmark February 2-3, 2019.
Among the competitors are 15-time National Champion Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo.; KFC Racing p/b Trek Knight), three-time National Champion Stephen Hyde (Easthampton, Mass.; Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld), U23 and Junior National Champions Clara Honsinger (Portland, OR - Team S&M Cyclocross), Spencer Petrov (McKinney, Tex.; Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com), Alex Morton (Saint Clair, Mich.; Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) and Katie Clouse (Hideout, Utah.; Alpha Bicycle Co / Groove Subaru), as well as 2018 Pan American Champions Honsinger, Curtis White (Delanson, N.Y.; Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld), and Gage Hecht (Parker, Colo.; Alpha Bicycle Co / Groove Subaru).
Who to Watch:
Saturday will begin with the Junior Men’s race. Keep an eye on reigning National Champion Alex Morton, as well as Nick Carter who placed second at Nationals in a well fought race with very muddy conditions similar to what might be seen in Denmark. In the Men’s U23 Race, two-time Pan-American Champion Gage Hecht will be one to watch along with National Champion Spencer Petrov and Lance Haidet who all placed in the top-20 at the final World Cup in Hoogerheide, Netherlands on January 27, 2019. Saturday will culminate with the Elite Women’s race where we can expect to see the 2018 Silver Medalist, Katie Compton as well as 6th ranked Kaitie Keough make runs for spots on the podium.
Sunday will start with the U23 Women’s Race. Among the strong contenders are Clara Honsigner, the 2018 Pan-American and National Champion, who placed second in the U23 category in last week’s World Cup in Hoogerheide, as well as Junior riders Katie Clouse and Maddie Munro. The last race of the weekend will be the Elite Men where three time National Champion Stephen Hyde will compete in his 5th World Championships alongside teammate and Pan-American Champion, Curtis White, who will make his Elite World Championships debut.
“We are heading into the 2019 Cyclocross World Championships with one of the most well-rounded teams the USA has ever fielded. I believe we are set up to achieve exceptional results in several categories this weekend.
Many of our riders have been or are currently involved in the USA Cycling development program, and we are really excited to see that the investment we've made in our athletes is now providing them with an opportunity to make a mark on the world stage,” said Jesse Anthony, Cyclocross Manager for USA Cycling
