Colorado Springs, Colo. (November 8, 2018) – USA Cycling announced today they will partner with five military support organizations to provide free memberships to veterans, active military and their families in honor of Veterans Day.
In an effort to introduce cycling to a broader community and to share the benefits of the sport to members of the armed forces, USA Cycling is partnering with multiple military support not-for-profit organizations to offer their members a free USA Cycling membership. Those who join receive a FREE 1-hour consult with a USA Cycling coach, a 10% discount off merchandise at the USA Cycling store, access to partner discounts, member only offers and a coupon to gift a BASIC membership to a friend or family member.
USA Cycling’s Director of Membership Elizabeth Kollar commented, “We are excited to partner with the military community to welcome new cyclists and help existing riders through their pedaling adventures. Our new membership model provides more meaningful benefits for a wider range of abilities. If you’re a beginner, a rider coming back to the sport or someone who has a podium goal, USA Cycling is here to support your journey.”
Team RWB, US Military Endurance Sports (USMES), Project Hero, Hope for the Warriors, World T.E.A.M. Sports, and Wounded Warrior Project will be offering their members a free USA Cycling membership. The offer will be open to all veterans, active military and their families through the USA Cycling website.
Team RWB’s Chief Advancement Officer Megan King said, “Team RWB exists to help veterans cultivate a new support system for their next station in life. Cycling is a perfect activity that reconnects the military community to other communities; it allows us to be neighbors, friends and expand our horizons while providing a healthy lifestyle. Our members participate in hundreds of cycling events throughout the country, and we are happy to partner with USA Cycling to bring the sport of cycling to many more military members.”
“USMES is thrilled that all of our members will receive a free USA Cycling Basic membership. This support from USA Cycling will help us serve our members at an even higher level by encouraging participation in cycling. For our military families and veterans, activity and community are key to remaining ‘fit for life.’” said USMES acting Executive Director Mandy Midgett.
Through the partnership, USA Cycling will work with each organization’s membership program to encourage participation, increase exposure to competitive cycling, and help grow the base of support for cycling in the U.S. Joint membership campaigns will focus on the health, fitness, family and community benefits of cycling, as well as educate riders on safety. Outreach will also communicate the joy and excitement of participating in races of all types and at all levels around the country.
