#CrossIsHere Across the U.S.

By: Kelly Fox  October 04, 2018

Cross is here and it’s the perfect time to get back on your bike. There are races taking place across the country over the next two weeks including several races in our ProCX series.

October 6-7 offers a weekend doubleheader for ProCX on both coasts. Charm City Cross returns in Baltimore, Md. for a 14th year. As the Mid Atlantic’s premier two-day cyclocross race, Charm City Cross features Category 1 and Category 2 events for Elite Women and Elite Men in Baltimore City’s historic Druid Hill Park. In 2005, the race hosted 280 racers, and this year is expected to attract more than 1,600 racers. This year it is part of the Parkway CX Trophy presented by Union Craft Brewery.

The West Sacramento Cyclocross Grand Prix (WSCXGP) returns for a second year on the ProCX calendar with two days of Category 2 races. The WSCXGP course sits in River Walk Park along the beautiful Sacramento River in the downtown core of the region’s largest metropolitan area. It has become a popular event for spectators, with live bands serenading the cyclists during races both days. It is the only race in the nation with live music on the course.

Dual events continue on both sides of the U.S. the weekend of Oct. 13-14. In Boulder, Colo., the US Open of Cyclocross returns to Valmont Bike Park. Category 2 events are provided both days for elite athletes, as well as masters and junior categories in the Colorado Cross Cup. Sanitas Cycling produces the event and has redesigned the course along with Pete Webber, a six-time U.S. Masters Cyclocross National Champion and a veteran cycling expert with more than 25 years of experience. Webber is also the director of Boulder Junior Cycling.

The CRAFT Sportswear Gran Prix of Gloucester presented by Ipswich Ale Brewing will be held at historic Stage Fort Park in Gloucester, Mass. More than 1,000 amateur and elite cyclists are expected for the 20th year of the event, which offer opening rounds of the Vittoria Northeast Cyclocross Series presented by Cycle-Smart. Elite Category 2 races will be featured both days for professional women and men for this must-see New England race in a dramatic harbor front park at the height of fall foliage season.

USA Cycling ProCX features the premier cyclocross events in America and uses an overall ranking system to determine the best individual male and female ‘cross racers over the course of the season. The 2018 ProCX calendar includes a total of 39 UCI-inscripted category 1 and 2 races across 19 states and the District of Columbia. The calendar spans from September to December, culminating with the USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships in Louisville, Ky., Dec. 11-16, 2018.
