Criteriums conclude Amateur Road

HAGERSTOWN, MD. JULY 29, 2018 — Downtown Hagerstown was bustling with activity. With ten national championship criterium races and a block party put on by Visit Hagerstown and the Maryland Sports Commission to celebrate the event, there was action everywhere you looked.

The day kicked off with our youngest competitors, the 11-12 Women. Dahlia Kissel (Erlanger, Ky./TEAM LOGIK) sprinted to take the title, bettering her second place in the road race. Clara James-Heer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Andrie Junior Development Team) captured the silver medal, and Danielle Scoville (Cypress, Texas/Northwest Cycling Club) took third.

The 11-12 Men were next on the course. Teammates Enzo Edmonds (Brooklyn, N.Y./Star Track Racing) and Jayden Li (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./Star Track Racing) went one-two in the event. Thursday’s time trial winner in this age group, Grayson Hauck (Allentown, Pa./Gotham Cyclists), rounded out the top three.

13-14 Women’s Track National Champion, Chloe Patrick (Carson, Calif./Team Velosport Junior & U23 Development Team) added another jersey to her collection, winning the women’s 13-14 criterium event. Yesterday’s road race champion in this age group, Marissa Carter (Saint Charles, Mo./Team Mack Racing), took the second step on the podium. Elizabeth May (Suwanee, Ga./Frazier Cycling Juniors) received the bronze.

Artem Shmidt (Cumming, Ga./ Mission Devo Cycling/NGCA p/b Tyler Perry Studios) also added to his jersey collection, winning the 13-14 Men’s criterium. He also won the time trial event on Thursday in this age group. Jack Carter (Minneapolis, Minn./NorthStar Development Team) came in second, and Beckett Tooley (Frisco, Texas/Latini’s Bicycle Repair) took home bronze.

For the 15-16 Men’s race, Nick Carter (Minneapolis, Minn./NorthStar Development Team) took home the stars-and-stripes. Will Sharp (Katy, Texas/ Hot Tubes Development Cycling) scored the silver and Sean Christian (Minneapolis, Minn.) was third.

Megan Jastrab (Apple Valley, Calif./iCademy) was another rider adding to their jersey collection on Sunday. After winning the road race on Saturday, Jastrab went for the double and won the criterium for the women’s 15-16 age group. Olivia Cummins (Fort Collins, Colo./ Melton Design Build/Cari Higgins Real Estate Cycling Team) took the field sprint to capture the silver and Kaia Schmid (Marblehead, Mass./New England Devo p/b Cadence Wealth Management) was right behind her, taking third.

Taking her second jersey of the week, Katie Clouse (Park City, Utah/DNA Cycling Team) won the women’s 17-18 criterium. Isabella Brookshire (Hendersonville, N.C./Sho-Air TWENTY20 Development) came in second and Anna Christian (Minneapolis, Minn.) rounded out the top three.

Riley Sheehan (Boulder, Colo./LUX/Sideshow p/b Specialized) upgraded his silver medal from 2017 in the 17-18 Men’s criterium, claiming the gold this year. Ryan Jastrab (Apple Valley, Calif./iCademy) was right behind Sheehan, and took the silver. Aidan Coats-Ballaseux (Denver/Prestige Imports/Porsche/Audi Race Team) took home the bronze.

For the U23 Men’s race, Gage Hecht (Parker, Colo./Aevolo Cycling, Inc.), won the stars-and-stripes. Quinten Kirby (San Diego/Marc Pro Cycling Team) was second, and Scott McGill (Fallston, Md./Gateway Harley-Davidson) was third.

Justin Williams (Los Angeles/ENDO CONCEPT TEAM) went two for two this weekend, grabbing both the road race and criterium titles for the Category 1 Men. Frank Travieso (Athens, Ga./Team United Healthcare Georgia/706P) took silver in the Category 1 criterium, and Samuel Boardman (Washington, D.C./Marc Pro Cycling Team) rounded out the top three.
