BERLIN, GER. – Cheer on members of the USA Cycling National Team as they compete at the 2020 UCI Track World Championships February 26 - March 1, 2020 at the Velodrom Berlin in Berlin, Germany, the last major track cycling event before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Races to Watch
2019-2020 UCI World Cup Overall Women’s Omnium Champion Jennifer Valente (San Diego) kicks off the televised portion of these World Championships for Team USA taking on the Women’s Scratch Race on Wednesday February 26. Earlier in the day, Valente will join her Women’s Team Pursuit squad of Chloe Dygert (Brownsburg, Ind.), Lily Williams (Asheville, N.C.), and Emma White (Duanesberg, N.Y.) to compete in the qualifying for that event.
“I’m excited for 2020, finishing the season here and building to the Olympics,” said Valente when speaking about the 2020 season and upcoming week. "This will be a full week of racing for Team USA and we are looking forward to this step on the way to Tokyo."
Thursday morning kicks off with Madalyn Godby (Louisville, Colo.) and Mandy Marquardt (Allentown, Penn.) as they take to the track for the Women’s Sprint 200-meter qualifying. In the televised afternoon session, the Women’s Team Pursuit squad will move into the first round of their event, and Adrian Hegyvary (Asheville, N.C.) will race the Men’s Scratch Race.
Friday sees Valente take on her signature individual event with the Women’s Omnium, an event comprised of four races - scratch race, tempo race, elimination, and points race - to crown an overall champion. She will try and better her 2019 bronze medal. Ashton Lambie (Lincoln, Neb.) will speed his way into Men’s Individual Pursuit qualifications in the morning, with finals for the event in the evening. Also competing in the evening on Friday, Daniel Holloway (Boulder, Colo.) is on the board for the Men’s Points Race.
On Saturday, Dygert comes back to the individual pursuit for the first time since claiming her seventh rainbow jersey in 2018. Gavin Hoover (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) makes his Men’s Omnium World Championships debut. Hoover placed fifth in the Men’s Omnium event at the last UCI Track World Cup, and is looking to better his results at the World Championships. Valente and Junior Women’s Madison World Champion, Megan Jastrab (Apple Valley, Calif.), will partner together to take on the Women’s Madison event.
Sunday afternoon, Valente completes out her competition schedule with the Women’s Points Race. During the morning session, Marquardt and Godby will compete in the Women’s Keirin event, with the semifinals and finals in the afternoon. To close out Team USA’s Track World Championships, Hegyvary and Holloway will hand sling their way through the Men’s Madison.
